Training Workshop: Cultural Journalism
The SKeyes Center for Media and Cultural Freedom and the Global Center for Journalism and Democracy are organizing a training workshop on CULTURAL JOURNALISM, on March 27-28, 2014 at the Riviera Hotel, Beirut.

Coverage of arts and culture in a society is vitally important. Reporters who cover the beat are usually among the first to identify unrest, social changes and the will of the people. Solid coverage of this sector can also help a country’s economic growth. Planning experts say the recognition of a community’s arts and culture assets can attract a strong workforce, successful firms and help sustain a positive quality of life. But too often, reporting on arts and culture is focused on celebrity gossip, or movie and theatre reviews. While both have their place in popular culture, cultural journalism and art critique are not the same thing, and rumors can never compete with fact-based reporting.

SKeyes and GCJD hope to work with journalists in Lebanon to support the important role they play when covering the arts and culture beat. Experts from around the globe will share their insights, experience and best practices.

The training sessions will take place from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM on March 27-28, 2014.

To register, please email SKeyes’ Events Manager Nayla Abdelnour on events@skeyesmedia.org before March 21, 2014.
